5th Gen ('95-'99): ebay 3800 headers on 97 monte

if its just the angle of the downpipe that hits the firewall, maybe see if a muffler shop could bend it that extra 2*-5* so you dont have the pound the firewall or cut it, and then have them bend the bottom angle up to compensate for the new angle on the downpipe?
not sure where the issue where the issue is exactly on a 5th gen.

I've got the DPP headers which are basically the same as the ebay/SSAC/speed daddy headers (SLP style knockoff, the pacesetter knockoffs are different).
Honestly, it would be way more work than it's worth on a stockish engine. I'd just do a plog and downpipe and call it a day.
I ended up having to hammer in where the rear 3 primaries come together to go down the firewall, and had to remove the heat shield. Then, if you look under the car, the body bumps down in the exhaust tunnel- it will hit that. I had heard that you only have to cut that flat, but I ended up having to cut way more. I've got probably a 6" x 9" hole at the base of my firewall/floor. I've made a sheet steel cover for the inside, and obviously the carpet goes back over it. I wrapped the headers in that area to keep the heat down.
The firewall is double wall too which makes it a real pain to cut. Getting under the car to sawzall that part out is a real pain without a lift, but on mine- the headers sit slightly above where the inside firewall was stock- so I would've had to cut through both regardless. Maybe the pacesetter knockoffs aren't so bad on a 5th gen?
IMO, that was the worst mod I've done, but I didn't really have a choice with my setup- I can't really run stock manifolds with a whipple.
