I have the DPP headers on my 96, which are SLP knockoffs/similar to speed daddys, etc. I will say that 'pouding' doesn't even remotely begin to explain it. Where my headers landed- they sat totally though both firewall layers into the passenger compartment where that little hump is in the firewall.

I had to pound a bit up top, mostly for extra clearance for engine movement/heat issues (since I had to remove the firewall shield, and the headers are bare/not wrapped or coated); cut out a notch for the O2 sensor, and cut out maybe a 6" wide x 10" long hole through both layers of firewall.

Maybe other brands are different, but it certainly was far from a drop in. Other than that, it went smooth- O2 wires were long enough- but I did go with those wide band clamps (the ~2" wide ones) instead of the garbage that came with it, and still had to fight with leaks a bit.

Honestly, I don't recommend headers to anyone on a 5th gen unless they're SC'd.

Hey bumpin, my DOHC might have jumped timing if it did it's not worth fixing a 225,000 mike motor. So that means a swap to a l36 and topswap. Where I want to take the setup headers are deff a must. Do you think cutting and rewelding the headers will help? What part of the exhaust hits the firewall? Maybe I can relocate the O2 as I will need an extra bung for my wideband anyway.

Are you going to put in the motor, then top swap it, or build it and put it in.

well since my DOHC engine died i have to get the car running asap. so i will be installing the l36 first. it will have headers and my full exhaust that i currently have on the car and my FWI. i have the 180* stat and plugs are cheep. after the engines 90 day warranty i will be installing the topswap kit. those 90 days will give me time to port the heads, lower intake, and blower, gasket match everything, and fit a north star TB to it. then, i will tune the heck out of it.

next phase after that will be rockers or a cam and then a pulley drop.

Thats an alright plan then. I would suggest cam while you're at it though. You dont want to have to tear off the parts while its in there again.

The idea is to get it back on the road ASAP. no time to do the cam. nor time to do the topswap right now. i will take some time and port all the topswap stuff so when it goes it it will be ready.

i figure down the road i will do rockers, and if i need more then small intercooler.

the build currently will be as follows:
-L36 high compression block
-4t65e with 3.29's
-L67 tops wap
-my 3" MAF
-North star TB
-Ported: blower (inlet and outlet), Lower intake, heads
-Speed daddy headers
-my current 2.5" high flow exhaust with high flow cat and magnaflow straight thru muffler
add to that some quality tuning.

It should make for one heck of a ride. my current goals for once the SC is on is to get to 14 flat. my ultimate goal is for 13 flat or just inside of 12's
