You can buy pre-programmed ECMs, or get a tuner, like from HP or Hypertech and modify the tunes. Several places offering up ECMs and tuners. ZZPerformance is the #1 source for anything performance, IMO. ZZPerformance is a GP group, but the Monte is the same engine. CALL them and talk to a tech about your needs, and order over the phone.

ZZP 1.0PCM

HP Tuners VCM Suite

3800 Performance Reprogrammed PCM

Hypertech Power Programmer III

Powrtuner or HPTuners, both can tune your engine. They both come up for sale used all the time on clubgp.com in the classified section.

You will likely find that a custom tune will provide you with the best results.

Your tuner will be able to monitor several key items such as air/fuel ratios, knock activity etc. to be able to extract the maximum performance out of your specific car/mods/fuel grade choice.

A custom tune will also allow for the transmission to be set up for your particular tastes. Shift firmness, shift points, torque convertor lock/unlock can all be fine tuned to your satisfaction. Fan on/off temps & speed limiters can be altered as well.

If you search hard enough you should be able to locate somebody local to tune your car for you, or as suggested above, you can purchase HPTuners & learn the process yourself.

This is excellent advice regardless of which route you elect to go. I've seen a lot of "tunes" that just make me shake my head.As long as you stick with someone reputable, you'll be fine.

That is a very important point- the learning curve to buying a tuner and doing it yourself is VERY steep, and you can mess up your car quite a bit if you don't know what you're doing.

On the flipside, if you plan to continue modding, it may be a wiser choice because then you aren't having to pay for a new tune every time you do a major mod.
