Making my monte go fast....
I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS... 3800 NA.... I called a performance specialty shop in my area and asked them if it were possible to make my car do 10's in a 1/4 mile.... The response was something like it couldn't be done with $5000.00 and even with a turbo you would have to completely rebuild the engine. I guess the two choices are either getting a m90 supercharger or a turbo charger from zzperformance.com. The currently modifications so far are dual flowmaster 40 series mufflers with a CAI air filter... I guess I would be happy if I could make my car quick enough to smoke a Mustang GT.... anyone have any thoughts?
now adays i would do the turbo. sadly im a supercharger kinda guy but the turbos are far more efficient.
some where on the zzperformance website theres a monte with above 500 hp. his mod list is there to. you could start with that.
is 5 grand your spending limit here or is that a general thought??

Yeah $5000.00 is my spending limit for now.... I guess my goal is to have my Monte smoke any mustang who challenges me on the road..... I don't currently drag race but eventually I plan on it.... What would be the best direction to spend towards $5k? Turbo with new cams, and pistons w/ headers?

However, they are right about $5k not getting you 10s. If you're seriously wanting your car to do 10s, then IMO you have 2 choices:
A)sell your car and buy one that has people who actually run 10s on street driveable cars reliably- mustangs, camaros, etc.
B)buy a daily driver, and make your car into a track only car- that way, when you do blow the transmission everywhere, you can still get to work.
I'm not trying to say it can't be done- but honestly, talk to anyone who has a 10 second or quicker W-body. They're all scared to death about the next time the transmission is going to explode, even with the most hardcore builds. The only thing that seems to help lessen that is to totally gut the car and make it a track only car- that way you can cut some of the weight on the thing to take some of the stress off the trans.
The other thing these guys will likely tell you is that the car becomes useless at that power level without slicks. The second you take it out on normal street tires at that power level- you're going to only be able to do really really high mph roll races (ie 50+), you're going to get destroyed at a stoplight by rwd guys with decent width tires running a good deal less power.
If you really do want to run as fast as possible, and are really looking at 10s, then scrap the M90- its not going to happen without a crazy weight reduction, and maybe even some bottle. You'd just be driving it WAY outside of what it was made to do, and you're still talking about a $10k+ build.
A turbo setup from zzp or stattama is the way to go if you're looking to go as fast as possible, but you're still talking a considerable investment. A full, intercooled turbo kit + a fully built trans is already at ~$6k+ depending what parts you go with.
As for beating any mustang you run into- if you're just talking about stock and mildly modded ones- its easy to beat just about anything but an 03/04 cobra. Any other mustang can be easily beat with just a turbo kit, or a pretty decent M90 build; but you're probably going to get raped by cobras- especially modded ones.

i dunno man an 03 cobra stock is at 12.9. that would be "simpler" catch than a heavily modded one like this one: http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford-Mustan...slip-7826.html
but even then if your looking to go fast easier buy a v-8.
you could pick up a used 5.3 from a junk yard outta a burban or tahoe and bore it to a 5.7 then build it like it was a ls1. essentially it is

But if he's just looking at the bulk of mustangs you're going to run into cruising around (ie stock, and mild bolt ons)- the 03/04 cobras are the real ones to be afraid of. A simple M90 and some minor bolt ons to go with it would be enough to tackle most any other mustang, and at least come close to the newest 300hp mustangs, but the cobras will still be well out of reach.
They're ~400hp stock (a lot of people claim the factory rating is low), so thats a solid 200 hp over what he has now- in a car of similar weight- thats one heck of a bridge to jump. Not to mention they are crazy responsive to minor bolt ons (imagine the L67 guys going from 240 to 300 hp with cheap, minor bolt ons- these cobra engines are just about as crazy with cheap bolt ons).

Take a cobra, for example, with the same 500 whp, and it will absolutely destroy you from a stop (sure they're still really loose in 1st, but they're gonna grab traction way before you will), and they won't be trying to push their tranny for over double what it was originally built for either.
i can agree with all you sid there. the new gt 500 are beast in their own territory.
when i said to buy a v-8 i was thinking go rear wheel drive to.
although i did have my car in the air today and i noticed alot of room to get a tunnel through. it would just be a matter of finding a rear end. could be fun. wish i had money for that tho.
origionally the 06- 07 ss were supposed to return with rear wheel drive but in 05 gm started to report loss instead of a gain so they went the easy rout and made universal parts, between the impala, monte, grandprix, and buick.
all in all a monte carlo isnt going to be the fastest thing around unless you have really deep pockets.
