Default Coolant/gasket issues

I just learned that GM has a lawsuit against Dex-cool, stating that, while they advertise as good for 150,000 miles, it causes severe corrosion after only 50,000. Im thinking that the fact the coolant hasnt been flushed in 150,000 miles might contribute to the fact that i have 3 leaking gaskets. So im flushing the coolant, but as to the gaskets, the mechanic quoted me about $1,200... Is changing these i job i can do myself?

You need some mechanical skill to replace the gaskets yourself. $1,200 seams about right to me. We paid $730 at the Pontiac dealer to just have the lower intake gasket replaces on my moms Bonneville. So for three gaskets that sounds pretty good. What three gaskets ar leaking?

And yea, not changing the coolant for 150,000 miles most likely has a lot to do with your gasket failure. When you have all the work done, I would aks the mechanic to flush the cooling system, and put in the good old green stuff, or Prestone all make all models coolant. Get rid of Dex-cool.
