Default Complete Trans Rebuild?

Hi Guys,
I am wondering if anyone who has had trans issues has just repaired the problem, and have you had to go into it again since then?
I have a good shop locally that can do the work for me, Auto Trans is Like Speaking Chinese to me.
Thing is, I don't think my income tax return is going to be enough to do a complete rebuild. And I have other issues I MUST fix before the end of April for inspection.
So would I be looking at Trans problems down the road if I just have them fix what is wrong with my Trans?

You could easily just get away with a soft rebuild!
Which is far cheaper than a full (Hard) rebuild provided the hard parts...(drums etc) are all in still good running order... Its my opinion your not the type of fella to abuse his equiptment.. So, I'd say you would be safe to have a soft rebuild done... Somewhere between $700 to $1000 depending on the shop you take it to JC. which is far cheaper than $1300.00 to $1800.00 IMO.

Thanks David, as I said, Auto Trans and Chinese are the same language to me. So getting advice from you and the other members here is very Very important to me! Right now, 3rd gear only works on flat ground to hold speed, even if I slightly try to accelerate, it slips and I have to rev it up to 3000 for 2nd to kick in.
Can't wait to have this fixed. I've never really felt the Full Power of this car?????

Happy to pass along advise from my own experiences...

I think you'll be slightly eye opened once you get it fixed up!

Hey JC, I feel your pain... Yesterday I had to stop by my shop because the passenger door would not stay locked.... I know I gave these guys way too much money in the past because they removed my door panel and replaced one of the 2 rods and didn't charge me a cent...... Although they know they are installing my Vogtland springs in the next couple of weeks... I'm sure a bill will be available... .

My Monte has over 200K on it now, the tranny quit at 200K. I took it in and the problem was the band for 4th gear broke. I COULD have gotten away with just fixing the problem and getting back on the road. However, I went for the complete rebuild instead. Yes it was a lot of money, but at 200K, I'm sure it was just a matter of time and more miles before other things started to fail. Plus, I want to get another 100+K out of my Monte, so I felt the investment was worth it.

You need to ask yourself what your current mileage is...is it really high? And how many more miles do you want to get out of the car? I think the answers to those questions will be the answer to what you should do.

Default Update:

Well I'm getting a nice sum in income tax. Not enough to get a T.E.P. Trans, but I can get the work done. I'm going to tell the Trans Mechanic I have about $800 to spend. I'm thinking it's gonna run me about $1000. Well see?
