Is it bad for your engine to go from 2k rpms to 5k rpms with in a few seconds?

Default Is it bad for your engine to go from 2k rpms to 5k rpms with in a few seconds?

I only do it once in a while as I baby it, but I've heard it's good for it.I was going 65 at the time and punched it (didnt go to the red) to 96ish and had the kick back. I heard the high revs "cleans it". I know, it probably sounds like b.s., but it makes sense. So how bad is it and how good is it?
thanks.

Of course it's good for the engine.

How else are you going to blow the gum out of the valves?

(This was my neighbor who had a C5 corvette's excuse when he got caught speeding when I was young)

I run my Monte between Boston and Albany, NY pretty often. Once you get away from the Big City and loose the traffic heading to New York City ... you're on a two, sometimes three lanes of Interstate with everybody wanting to be the guy in front. On occasions when I have to make this trip without the Old Lady riding shotgun and no kids in the back; I hook-up BOTH Radar Detectors and see how fast I can get to Albany from Boston.
This means the Monte will experience occasional visits to the right hand side of the Tach as its pulled from DRIVE into 3rd and Stomped-On to stay with the Exotics just ahead of me a little bit ... with my Radio off, two Cincinnati-made countermeasures on High-Gain, and my eyes fixed on the Tail lights of the guy just ahead for whom I am in Hot Pursuit. Some very nice people in Canada made me a Chevy-Monte to play this game and me and my Monte love going fast!!!

if you're referring to blowing out the carbon, those quick, high revs aren't good for that. what you want to do is go on a long, gradual high speed run. really get the thing to wind out for an extended period of time

Revving the heck out of your engine isn't cleaning anything. If you want to race, or go fast- then floor it, but the more you do it, the shorter the overall engine life will likely be.

If all you really want to do is clean the engine out- seafoam it.

I've heard its good to "blow" out your engine once in a while...

However, I don't think there is a spec of carbon build up in my engine (I know that that is impossible, but i'm just saying) with my foot, and living in California with natuarally fast moving highways, my Monte gets its revs up hmmmm....daily!

I'm not going to lie, I drive my car hard, but I do not abuse it...and I take really good care of it as far as maintenance goes...

I have to force myself to drive it normally! LOL...
