700r4 trouble 4th Gen Shifter & cable HELP PLEASE

Unhappy 700r4 trouble 4th Gen Shifter & cable HELP PLEASE

for the life of me i cannot figure this one problem out. the cable i had stopped working one day, my shifter just glides up and down freely. now that i need to replace it, what kind are the best and where did you get yours? i have the stock floor shifter and a 700 out of a '90 firebird. what length cable do i need and are there any brackets or mounting i need as well?? thanks in advance

You may end up having to measure it out for the length of the cable.

Or,
I would use the cable and brackets from the firebird..

thanks Space for helping me out. i wish i had looked harder for a 200 instead of the 700. wouldabeen simpler

Hi! Here is where I got my shifter cable and bracket when I switched over to the ZGate shifter from the column shifter for my TH350. Not sure if I can post non-sponsor sites? Auto Trans Shifter Cable - JEGS High Performance
There is an area that is used for adjusting on the cable near where the cable bracket attaches, make sure that has not come loose as it may be an easy fix.

Stumpmi, i found a guy who i think can get it to where it needs to be and i believe you are right, im going to wait to hear back from him but im sure im goin to end up getting all the firebird parts, after that i will find a cable of correct length.

H317, i'll take a look at that bracket you mentioned, that would be the easiest and cheapest solution

Yes, check the adjuster and then both ends of the cable. May have had a cotter pin break or something.
