Lightbulb 6.5/7th gen S/C 3.8L V6 Engine Swap

This is not something I'm considering at all. Just to put that to rest. I just was wondering though if anyone has ever done or thought about doing this swap.

The 3.5 and 3.9 are decent engines, but basically have 0 aftermarket support. However, the 3.8L supercharged V6 found in the 6th generation Monte Carlos have an abundance or support.

I was just curious if this has been done. I think it would be an awesome engine swap. Hell, even a 5.3L V8 to 3.8L supercharged V6 would be pretty cool to see. I just wanted to start a new discussion on this forum instead of the same old threads repeating itself.

Personally if I were to do it. I'd get a cheaper $500-600 L26 block and buy the top end separately. You could have a block, heads, LIM, and Gen V for the price of that L67 easily.

Oh and even though I like Ed and he's a great guy. Most of the stuff you can buy from him can be found elsewhere for about 65% of the price he tries to sell it for. For some reason he seems to think W-body parts are gold and they should be overpriced.

I just think it would be cool, but I see what you're saying. Buy a basic 3800, and the supercharger top end separately. Good call.

And who's Ed?

Ed Morad, the seller on the EBay listing. He has a company called Morad Parts. They sell strictly to the W-body community pretty much.

i think it seems like a lot of work. you could just buy an 05. there was a post with the 6th gen with the 7th gen frontend on it. i think that would be the easier route. i do like the gauges in the 7th gen better though.

i just wish that chevy kept the 3800 in the monte and have the 5.3 in the ss. so the two models have a open market for both models not just the one. i would have guesed the sales of the 06-07 7th gen models would have been high do to the open market for both engins not just the one. like the 5.3 ss and left the 3.5 ls lt model abandend in the wind

Perhaps it would be easier, maybe even cheaper, but I like EVERYTHING better about the 7th gen. We have a lot more going on than just a different front end. Dash, seats, rear end, to name just a small list.

You can't keep the same engines around forever, companies and tech has to evolve. Even if it does seem to be going backwards. And as far as you mentioning the "open market," I'll take that as you talking about aftermarket. Here's the thing, the vast majority of people who buy cars are not buying them to modify them. That being said, I don't think if Chevy kept the 3800 in 2006-2007 it would have helped sales figures at all.
