5.3 V8 in a 6th gen ?
Hello, do any of you know if the 5.3 engine in the new Montes will fit in the 6th gen (with a little mods?) fit in, transmission and all? I know of corse it would need a new PCM, but could it be done? If so, I've got some big time thinking to do... A local guy has a 5.3 compleate with a trans and all other parts.... Thanks, any info would really help, thanks... Michael...

I would think the FWD v8 from the 7th gen would fit a 6th gen. I could be wrong, but I believe the 2000-2005 Monte, which appears to be based on the chassis re-design from the Grand Prix started in '97, is the same basic chassis the 7th gen Montes use. And if I am not mistaken, starting with the '97 Grand Prix, that chassis was designed with a possible v8 in mind for the future.
But do NOT take my word on it, I have not done enough homework on this topic.

Yup, here's the writeup:

The tranny mount lined up and the engine mounts require some kind of modification but he made it sound fairly easy. I'm thinking of doing this in the future (probably after I get back from Deployment)

ATTENTION. !!!! Mjclemm has a HUGE SMILE right now.".. I am currently talking to my wife and telling her how much sence this makes to do this to my Automobile. I told her I would want to be Greener in this upcoming year, so I heard the v8 for the newer Montes can run E85 Flex fuel to save on the greenhouse effect, so Al Gore would be happy and we could get better gas mileage. ( I think it's working... Shusssssss!, don't tell her I have an arterial motive..). Thanks a ton for finding the write up... Love this man. Now I gotta go read and go thru it.. Thanks again..Mjc..

It is NOT as easy as just getting the PCM/Engine/Trans.
You will need mostly a full donor car. You have to swap a lot of the electronics all throughout the vehicle, and you'll need the dash and gauges and everything.
MPG wise, it will be terrible. Speed-wise, it isn't worth it. The L67 would be a much more efficient engine, and with small modifications faster.

The easy/cheaper way to make more power then an LS4 is to go with a turbo and set the engine up to run on E85. There are lots of guys with 3800's who have gone converted to E85. I would too, but the nearest E85 gas station to me is about an hour away. It's VERY worth it though to go with E85. You will lose a little bit of gas mileage with it, but you will gain a bit of power from it being that E85 is 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline (think of it as a cheap race fuel).
Your call though of course.
