Default 4t80e News

Just yesterday Brandon Furches posted another, more in depth video, on the LS4/4t80e swap. But as I was scrolling through the comments of that video, I saw this one from Kevin Anderson: "I'm wanting to do the 80e swap on my l67 so bad I'm tired of going through transmissions. Hope you can come out with a swap video for them in the future." Brandon replies to this comment with "We may have something in the pipeline with GM EFI Magazine!"
Im excited to see if he's going to support the guys who don't quite want to stuff an LS4 into there W body, and bring some products to market for the 3800/4t80e swap.

I saw the same video. I don't have interest in messing with the LS4 (that is a bigger project than I want to vet into my Monte, unless I address some other vehicle wants first lol). But I love seeing the stuff Brandon has shared. His 2004 LS4 powered Monte is a bit "unique" in many ways. I am assuming one of the reasons for his videos, sounds like he's fabricating parts to bring to market for the 4t80 swap and if so, best way to sell them, share how to use them. Regardless, it's great to see someone bring excitement to the W-body platform, willing to share knowledge and also seems very approachable.
I am impressed with the info he shared on the conversion. He explained things pretty fast, showed before and after, clearly working on other related projects. Good stuff!!

Yeah, I don't quite want to embark on an LS swap either. It's even more work on top of the trans swap. Plus, the 3800 is able to make enough power for me, and probably the trans. I'm curious to know the HP Brandon's Monte is putting out now that he ran a 10.3

I did join that group, but if Jeff was talking about more info on the 3800 stuff that was hinted, I couldn't find any. But there is going to be another video next week on the electrical side of the 4t80e swap that I'm looking forward to.

I havent followed his build, but if he posted the trap speed, you can take a rough estimate at weight to come up with a reasonably accurate power figure.

Edit - a bit of google searching came up with him claiming 3750 lbs for the car and a trap speed of 137.

That works out to about 780 hp if that weight is still accurate.

I know from a previous message when his 2004 LS4 Monte was making lots of attention, I asked a little about the PCM. If my memory is correct, he is using a 2004 Chevy Express Van PCM. Main reasons, it works with all the 2004 factory stuff (like the factory cluster) in the Monte and HPTuners will also work with it. But I am sure there is a lot more on the wiring and electronics to this set up he has.

I remember seeing that in an old article, but I never got how he managed to manually control the trans with that PCM. Im leaning towards a standalone controller which would allow me to control gears, line pressure, and TCC lockup, rather than wiring in a new PCM.

If I recall, the 4t80 is less computer controlled. It more mechanical. If that statement is correct, he probably has to dump a lot of trans controls in the PCM so the engine does it's thing and the trans does it's thing and all the PCM would care about is what gear it is currently.
But, I am NOT saying my memory is correct. I well say, the way Brandon is sprinkling information out there, I have no doubt he will address those questions, at minimum an over view.
