3500 Top Swap
Anyone ever done a 3500 top swap on a 3400 engine? I have been thinking about it since it doesn't seem like it would be too hard to do. I have seen the specs on the 3500 as being 211hp. Do you get anywhere near that by swapping on a 3500 lower intake and heads? I'm more curious about this swap than actually thinking about doing it. Just sitting here at work daydreaming.
Cool. Thanks Chibi. I'm just trying to think of some of the stranger swaps out there. Just curious about some different stuff. Not really serious about doing anything like this. But, I like to learn about our cars.
I'm always hesitant to go to other forums because it feels like I'm cheating on the MCF, Lol.
For the 3500 top swap you have to do heads, LIM and you can use an adapter to use the 3400 upper or 3500 upper.. That right there if you do it right and get it ported, which you should do since you're already digging that deep, is going to run you at least $2k.
Then if you go with the 3500 upper you have to get the 3500 throttle body, or if you do 3400 upper you should get it ported to 65mm and get the 3500 throttle body and adapter.
All of this and you still have the restrictive 3400 exhaust manifolds, so you could go headers or 3500 manifolds which would need a custom crossover that brings both manifolds into a y and then you would need a custom downpipe after that since they won't meet up at the same spot as stock.
With all that you're running nearly $3k give or take a little for the power of an L32.
I agree with others if you're serious about the swap, go L32 or L67, if you want serious power, save the $3k, sell the monte, buy an LS1 or LT1 Camaro.
Don't even think about the 3900, all it is, is an oversized 3500, there are no mods unless you want to boost, which will be custom, it's a boost hungry engine, but everything will have to be completely custom. It's a bigger engine with just a little more power and gulps a lot more gas.

I'm really not sure what I'm going to do. It's most likely down the road a ways. Just thinking about possibilities and trying to gather information. Heck, I will probably just end up sticking with the 3400. But, I like to know my options.
