No way to test it unless you know a person with an engine test bench.
Ask for a warranty between 7 to 30 days.
Otherwise, unless you know a good small block mechanic, caviat emptor.
The seller may think that $650 is a good core price even if both items need immediate rebuilding.

well there is a way to see if they run but if you are to far away to go check before you buy its not good i started motors on the floor before
but you wont have to chance any thing to bolt it to the car the crossmember for the trans if you are going with the TH400 and a 850 double pumper is kinda big if ya ask me for a stock to mild 350 i would go with a 600-650 cfm but just like the trans i would go with a TH350 or a TH700R4 but if you can get every thing for a good price put it in and see how it works !!

the carb needs to match the engine. dont jump and buy somethin you dont need. best thing to do is sit down and decidehow much horsepower youre looking forin whatever engine you decide to go with. the power your engine makes will designate what size carb you need.decide if gas mileage matters to you. what carb you use will affect that and performance directly. an example of this is.. an edelbrock carb will save you some fuel but it sacrifices a lil performance. a holley is just the opposite. it will perform but gas mileage will be less. there are many decisions to be made by yourself. if you have a plan for your engine you will save money in the end.
