3100 V6, 1995 Monte Carlo plug question
Ist there a link where I can find where all of the electric connectors go on a 3100 V6 in a 1995 Monte Carlo? Previous owner pulled them all, didn't label them.
Need especially to know where the wire that goes from the VSS goes to.
Route it between manifold heatshield and head? Or below manifold? And where the heck does it plug into?
And I have a question regarding the 98 3100 engine. The 1995 had a temp sensor (one wire)in the cylinder head closest to the firewall, the 98 doesn't. Can I run a 98 engine with all the electrical wiring from a 95? What is that temp sensor for? There is still one by the thermostat.

You'll need the '98 wiring harness and sensors. The wiring issue - all wires will route to fuse boxes or the PCM. You need a wiring diagram and/or a Haynes Manual. I know my Haynes Manual has helped me out of sticky situations more than once.
Thanks for the responses, a Haynes manual would not show me where the wire would have to be routed through. It would explain where it is hooked to, but won't show me a pic of how it is physically routed, was hoping for a 95/96 owner to come through and let me know. As far as the harness switch is concerned, doubt it, cause everything is the same engine block and head wise, except that one missing sensor. If they changed the pcm and other things to gain more hp, yup I would miss out on those when running 95 electronics, but the pistons, etc are the same, so unless they also installed a different cam everything should work as in 95 with the exception of that missing temp sensor.
Keep in mind that in 96, everything went to OBDII. That considerably changed the wiring on all motors that were otherwise the same from 95 to 96. OBDII added several sensors that were not there in OBDI cars. My area of expertise is with the 3800 Series II motors. There were some used in 95 but the wiring was not the same as the 96 model vehicles because of that difference. Same goes between the 95 and 96 LT1, Ford 4.6L, Ford 300 Straight 6, Ford 351 and 302 V8s, Chevy 454s, Dodge 318s, etc. Any motor that was offered in both 95 and 96 is going to have considerable wiring differences and the 96 one will have several different sensors. I know that doesn't totally answer your question, but I hope it gives you some sort of idea on your second question. Also, the 98 wiring will likely not work with the 4T60 transmission unless it was offered with that motor (that I am not sure). The 3800 series II FWD motors were offered with the 4T60 during 96 and 97, but in 98 they went to the 4T65 which is very much different, both physically and from a wiring standpoint.

so let me then rephrase my question, anybody out there with a 95 Monte who could check on that wire? Again, one plug goes into the vss on the engine block and the other plug goes? and where does it route through? Below the manifold and around it or in between the manifold heat shield and the head?

That may help, from what I have found you need to connect it to the PCM. I am no expert and that is not my generation but browsing around online that is most accurate information I have found. Again, I am no expert and not my generation. Induce what you can from it!

Thanks to all who tried to help. I have now received my GM Service Manual. The plug that I thought belonged to the VSS is actually hooked up to the crankshaft sensor. Confusion came from the fact that the same sensor is used on a Park Avenue as a vss. So the other end plugged into the ignition module. Problem solved. As far as 95 and 98 engine difference is concerned. A 98 can be dropped into a 95 Monte. Two cahnges nned to be made. The water temp sensor from the cylinder head on a 95 needs to be relocated. And the metal water pipe that goes into the thermostat housing and to the firewall needs to be changed, from 95 to 98. No wiring changes necessary, engine runs.
