Default 305CID Engine Specification

Would anyone out there know the internal engine specs that came with the 305 High Output engine back in the '80's? I am trying to find out specific iinfo about the camshaft profile used (lift, duration, separation, etc) and the head specs (valve size, chamber CC's, etc). I can't find this info anywhere. Thanks, everyone, David

Wow. That's a very big carburetor for such a small head/valve setup. Thanks for the info. I am building a 350. I got an old 78 model 350 truck engine, 4 bolt main, 4 bbl carb, factory rated at 165 hp. The reason is a dead cam and 76 cc chamber heads. I don't want to build a 12 second car but I do want to have a decent passing gear. I also exchanged the 229 rear end for a 3.42. That has already made a BIG difference.

yeah the rear end swap is a big plus and as far as the engine goes just put a set of pistons at will put your compresion ratio to at least 9.5:1 and then a good cam intake manifold carb and exhaust system and it should pull pretty good then ! do you have a 4 speed trans ? they have a low 1st gear thats good for take offs to so that would help but they have there down sides to so

I have a friend building a 2004R trans. It is what came in the Monte when equipped with an overdirve back then. It's a 4 speed with a 33% overdrive. It will let me have a good low end but still have a high speed cruising range also. I should be turning about 2200 rpms at 70 mph when in overdrive. Just trying to build a highway cruiser but still have the power to pass someone when necessary.

yeah i had a 700r4 in mine with the 3.73:1 and when i started to put performance parts on my motor it started to go bad and then it let go completly i guess it couldent take the power so when i built my 400 i went with a th350 witch is stronger but i miss that overdrive i am spining 3200rpm @70mph compared to the 2200rpm with the th700r4
what year is your monte ? do you have any thing done to the motor yet ?

I have a 1986 non-SS. I don't even know the model. There is no decals or trim on it anywhere. The guy I bought it from had it stripped and repainted. Only has the large chrome strip along the bottom side of the car. He didn't know the model either. I am putting lots of SS goodies on it though. I even have to change out all 4 coil springs cause it bottoms out very easily with a V6 in it now. I ordered heavy duty springs for the front and varible rate for the rear. It is a very nice driving car so I hope to see a big improvement when finished with the engine/trans. I am also putting real dual exhaust on it with 40 series flowmasters.

the 86 is a LS model if its not an SS the car is pretty weak with a v6 but with the swap of the v8 and 4 speed trans, gears you will be happy with your car man and get the springs, shocks, swaybars for an SS model car they are stiffer for better handeling
but besides that sounds like your going to end up with a nice ride
keep me posted on your progress!!!!
