I have 2005 Monte Carlo, I had a bad battery and i replaced it now my car will crank over with the key every once and awhile but if i jump across the crank relay it will turn over just fine and start with the key in the on postion. Is there anyone out there that might have some clue to what is causing this????? I have checked my terminals and they are good i have also tried a diffrent key. Can some one please help me on this issue.

How many miles on your Monte Carlo ?

Clean your keys & dry them good ? Sometimes they get dirty & will not make a good contact..

Also, you could have a bad or faulty ignition switch ?
They wear, especially if you have many keys & things on your car ring...They swing back & forth & wear the internals of your ignition switch..

I would double check all the connections. Also are you sure the new battery is charged and working. I have seen batteries be junk right from the parts store.

 

Thank you for the suggestions, i found the problem. On the upper fuse box under the hood where the remote jump is there are two wires there with a nut the nut was loose and was not letting the wires make good contact. I tightened it up and everything works great. Thank you again for the suggestions.
