Default 1985 monte ss transmission help

Okay so this might be confusing to explain but i have a 1985 monte carlo ss with a 350, 200-4r transmission, and 3.73 gears. Now I do not think im getting enough torque like i should out of my motor and enough power. When ever i get going it sort of lags a little bit and is kind of slow. It just does not seem like im getting all the power out of that engine that i should. It seems like the transmission cant handle the power it wants to put out or something because it takes a lot to get going which is really killing my gas. maybe a 5 speed swap would help? or even put a manual in it? thanks for any help given!

85' SS............It's a 26year old trans. Don't expect much from the trans if you haven't rebuilt it yet. It maybe slipping. Maybe TC is going. Could be your TC solenoid going. It could be many things.

First thing first. Adjust the TV cable. Look at the fluid. Is it bright red? Any burnt smell? Do some simple maintenance first and see how it feels.
