the 180's shouldnt have any problems at all. the factory fans will kick on still at 195 or 198 still, but there isnt a big diff in 195 vs 180 so its all good....

if your running a 160... this could cause problems... .cause that is a big diff.... if you are running a 160 you will need to modify the fan turnon points. which means you will need a DHP or some other modified PCM. if you dont have one of these already, then your probably not modded enough to need a 160 stat. and if your asking if you need a 160, then the answer is NO you dont... if you needed one you would know.

engine runs closer to its normal operating temp/ ideal operating temp

the cooler the motor the less chance there is for detonation which will destroy your pistons.

$10 is a far price for the extra protection.

The big negative of running a colder T-Stat is that you loose some fuel economy and over the big picture, loose some life on the engine. I really wouldn't blame any engine problems though on a 180* t-stat. You wouldn't see t-stat probs until around 400,000 miles it is so small.

In the end probably not enough to complain about. I would guestimate in the end about 0.2 - 0.33 mpg loss.

You will lose more if your tires are underinflated.

but some chips require a 180* and are tuned for one... so without it your loosing mpg.... also the big reason for runing the stat is to cool the engine to lower risk of Knock... when the car sees knock it pulls timing and in some cases enrichens fuel. this will hurt mpg much more... i know from the computer files on my 3.4L a 10* drop in temp only raises the AF ratio .1th of a point! i dont have my laptop i use for tuning here or i would pull up a GTP file and show you the af on it. but im sure its pretty close. bottom line when modding its worth having. even if it costs you $.5 a tank! which is pushing it, its worth it to know your not going ot blow the motor because of Knock
