Hey guys!

Drivin around today and I noticed my temperature guages wasn't working. The temperature sensor is in the air intake tube so I don't know what else to look at. Please help!

The temp sensor is not in the intake tube, I think its in the LIM below the thermostat. If you take it out be prepared to deal with alot of coolant.

Has it thrown a code? Consider the T-Stat to be failing.

 

Yeah I'm not sure why it posted twice. But where's the thermostat at? And I see people have a 180* thermo, what's that about?

 

Stock T-Stat runs at 195* degrees, people lower it to 180* to help lower Knock Retard "KR".
Mine went out a few weeks ago, and replaced it this morning.
the thermostat is located in the housing where the top radiator hose enters the engine

 

Just because the gauge wasn't working today doesn't mean anything is necessarily broken. If you live in a colder climate and your engine doesn't heat up to a certain temp within a given time the gauge will stop registering for 3 ignition cycles until the car heats up correctly. If it doesn't heat up correctly within the 3 ignition cycles it will throw a code and you probably have a bad T-stat.

I know this because after switching to a colder T-stat that was drilled my car would stay too cold for too long during the east coast winters of below freezing temps.

And while you're at it, you should change your radiator insulator.

 

So if I wait to see if it warms up properly and that still doesn't do anything, I should change the radiator insulator?

What does staying in school have anything to do with cars?

 

I would honestly just swap to a new thermostat first. It's about $10 and 3 minutes of work before you start dealing with the sensors.

How's your coolant btw? With Dex-cool you need to flush it before the 5 years and 100,000 miles like the car says. Dex is crap and starts to turn to sludge and doesn't work so great after a while. I usually flush every other year

How do I access the thermostat? I honestly have no idea what it even looks like or where to start looking for it. And I'm not sure how the coolant is, I'll check it tomorrow.
