'00 SS Tranny problem
I started having problems over the w/e with my transmission at 108K miles. After I have been at highway speeds, then slow down and reaccelerate, my transmission makes a clunking sound on the upshift. I took it to a transmission shop, and they said it had registered a code for the HPSS (High Pressure Sensor Solenoid) and suggested that I have the whole transmission rebuilt, for $2300. I called a shop that a buddy recommended and was told that there was no such thing as a HPSS. He wanted to replace the ACS (Accelerator Control Sensor), for $600. Which component actually exists in the transmission of this vehicle, and would replacing it recitify the problem?

I agree that a solenoid is bad. But that doesn't mean you need a WHOLE transmission rebuilt. Just get the new solenoid put in. We have a few that go bad often
(www.tripleedgeperformance.com) is a great read on our transmissions.
Also if you even thought about a rebuild but never wanted to pay the price, our transmissions are very very common, and it's not hard to get a used one for ~ $400

I would start by asking your 1st guy exactly what the code was that it threw?
GREAT site reference Mike. Never been there before.
And as you can see, there are several solenoids in these tranny's, as they are totally computer controlled.
