im not disregarding your work on your dads truck or how good of a job you did but a clay bar is just one of those things someone has to feel before and after to really understand just how much crap was on their paint ...

ive done the clay bar on every car we own now ... 2008 300 dub edition - 2005 explorer xlt - 2002 liberty - 2006 mc ss - even my dads harley got clayed and its never seen rain or been parked outside for more than an hour .... and wow does it make such a difference in the final product no matter what you do ... even buffing is easier because youre not scouring all that crap back into your paint and all compounds, polishes and waxes come off easier too ...

its for sure a necessity in anyones car care kit ...

..You can use any clay-bar kit that is out there. I use the "Meguires" and have used "Mothers" as well. The claybar from the Mothers kit is a little softer and will tear a little easier but it does the job. It's really amazing just how much trash is picked up by claybars.

No you can use any brand you want. I used Meguries in the pic but i am lookin at getting a professional clay bar soon. Differece is a professional is a little more aggressive.

I agree it is a necessity but you dont need to do it every time, how you test this?

The Plastic Bag Test
All you need is a sandwich plastic bag, put it on your hand like a glove. Run your hand down your down you car and if its rough, then a clay bar is needed.

Yes and no. If a car has a nice clear coat it comes of real nice. Take this Ford Edge i did. The clear came of so nice, infact you couldnt put a bottle of water on it because it would slide off.

The brand of clay doesn't matter, unless you can get a hold of some Clay Magic clay kits cause they have different abrasiveness. But any clay bar you can get a hold of that can be bought OTC will be fine.

You can also do the test on your paint with a plastic grocery bag. It's a trip the difference it makes. Rub your hand on the paint w/o the bag, feel how smooth you think it is, then run your hand on the paint w/the bag and be amazed!

I use the blue Clay Magic kit and that seems to work for me. BTW clay barring strips the wax off so you need to be prepared to wax the car afterwards.

I want an aggressive one since she is black and her paint was neglected when I first got her from her original owner. I know she really needs it. Or should I just start off with a meguiars one or the blue one? Which one do you think better for neglected black? lol Will it help get out swirl marks too?

It won't get out swirl marks - a buffer is the only thing that will get out swirl marks.
