I read an artical years back, say 10. They recomond you never ever power wash your engine. To many wires attatchments to come loose. Especially when you have a stubborn spot. Get up close and blast it. Personaly I try to wash my motor once a month. Engine cleaner, tooth brush, rags and elbow grease with a garden hose with out a pressure handle. Some sprayers are so strong I'm thinking they could tear through vacuum hoses.

Yeah vacuum lines can become brittle after a few years and spraying with high pressure sound like YOUR ASKING FOR IT but CLEANING THE MOTOR MAKES A GOOD SHOW PIECE
