That would be my guess to. One of the buttons that still has almost all of the paint left on it has raised little air pockets sort of like a paint stripper was put on it.

yeahh probably. i've looked at every salvage or used auto part part in the pensacola area and nothing. no buttons for the steering wheel or license plate filler. i only need the volume (which is really bad lol), the seek button is starting to wear a lil and then the one beside that which is like pre-set or something like that. all the other ones are in great condition. but i'm bout to go to a smaller dealership that i know has some montes with fillers and ask them how much they would sell it for. i called the chevy dealership down the road for me and the buttons are 80 bucks and the filler is 120! thats crazy! my boyfriend is getting pissed too. hes wanting to just go test drive a crappy one and take them off that but i said thats called stealing ya know lol. so yeahh idk what i'm gonna do. i might just end up painting them like you guys said and just getting over it until i find new ones.=/

From what I've heard from others, the button caps wont pop out from the front in one piece. I'd like to know if that's true or not, but I'm not willing to sacrifice my buttons to find out. Has anyone gotten them out from the front in one piece?

Not sure if this helps anyone. But for anyone wondering, here's what the buttons read.
