outside Rear mirrors

I agree with Amy, my 02 I bought new also had and still do have a glossy black finish. Yours are getting UV damaged and are dulling out. Use some rubbing compound, polish and then wax on them and elbow grease and I would bet they will be as good as new. Then after that just keep them waxed...

Then they have to be way sun damaged. So you compound them, polish them and wax too and they still return to a matte appearance? Weird...
I have never seen any OEM matte finish exterior mirrors on a Monte, but then one can learn something everyday.

I aint buyin' the UV light thing.
Everybody knows the sun don't shine in Seattle
Must be acid rain
Maybe not though since the '00 is garaged most of the time.
Honestly, I don't doubt anything any of you are saying. They probably did come shiny. Just speaking from experience, and it don't make a d..... bit of difference because it is what it is. Time to move on.

One never knows, over time UV's fade all the other plastics on a car.

I have a bit to add to this. The all-black '06 LS I bought less than 2 months ago will agree with everyone here.
The driver's side mirror is good as new; in its original glossy black.
The passenger side is the opposite. For whatever reason, has almost totally, evenly, faded to matte.
With one of each, my car is thusly neutral to this entire argument!
(Did GM forget the passenger side of these cars? The passenger wheel well issue, now this? :p)

I'm with Amy on this one. I been the only owner of my Monte and still have the original mirrors on my car, they're shiny black and neither of them ever "faded"
