Yeap, running fresh keeps the mold from building, but in SoCal, when you run fresh, you get all the smells of the city in your cabin....YEEEECHHHH.

I like to spray air freshener with ordor-killer or anti-bacteria and mold feature into the bottom intakes by your toes and keep it on recirculate.

You can also run your vents for a couple of minutes after using recirculate, that usually helps a bit.

 

belive it or not G.M. has a write up on this for certin years in teh montes and the grand ams i think it was.

what happens is the condesation gets in to the system and you cant get it out with out putting a dryer in to the system and then vac. down the system. then you can put a can of the RIGHT spray in the car and it will get rid of the smell also.

but the other thing to do is change the incabin filter on the car and this will help you some.

And if you know a insent or a x-mass tree air freshner you really like
pull the incabin filter out.
now take your favorit smell good stuff. and cut it in to small strips (if not already small enough)
Now stick them in the folds of the new filter and then you can enjoy the stink for a while with out the mildew stink also.

I knwo they have a kit for this threw the dealer also it has a external Air Dryer in it to stop it from happening agian.
