I think with as much work as I put in to this, $500 wouldn't have been unreasonable. But the $200 I got from him, as well as the recognition I've gotten from people in the company who seen what it looked like before and the references I'll likely get in the future make it all worth it.

Haha, this is true. Black is a unforgiving color, but once you get it done up right it looks so damn good! What kind of buffer did you get? A rotary or a random orbital?

Don't trip man, my rotary is the harbor freight one too No way in hell could I justify paying $100+ for a rotary when the $25 unit from HF gets the job done just the same. I've had my HF rotary for 5yrs now and it's still going strong. It's not the sexiest rotary out there but I'd much rather have an ugly rotary and lots more money in my pocket than a sexy one and an empty wallet cause at the end of the day they both will get the same job done.

My suggestion to you would be to practice, practice, practice. The first car I used mine on was my own 2001 Ford Taurus, black of course. Not even gonna front, I still can't finish with the rotary. I use the rotary for the heavy cutting then follow up with my PC7424 for the rest of the process. I was able to get all of the swirls out of my Taurus and didn't inflict any damage until I got to the final panel, the rear bumper. I ended up during the paint in a spot about the size of a dime by moving the machine a fraction of a second too slow. No biggie, my car, small spot, all good. But man, it's a very humbling tool to work with that's for sure.
