Engine Detailing
i think there may have been one on this befor but may be a different a dif forum me i just go to the car wash(self serve) use there engine cleaner stuff and then spray it down with water
take a microfiber towel and whpe down all with meguires hottire...ot says not to use it on plastic or painted parts but i've been doing it for years no problem...

Be very careful on engine detailing, I've never done it before...but from what I've read it is HIGHLY recommended you find some plastic, aluminum foil, or something to cover up all of the electronics and wiring under the hood of the car. If you spray that with water you could cause a short, or if you spray water into the Throttle Body, or air filter, you can ruin your engine. Plastic grocery bags would work, cover all the electronics and wiring with that, THEN you may spray down the engine interior with the de-greaser, let the car sit in the sun, hood up, then take a towel to wipe away what's left.
quatermain all wires in engine compartment should be water tight...if u ever remove on they have a rubber gromet in the conection so that shouldn't be a problem.. i've never had one even with my 85

Like Brock, I use Simple Green...And Like Quatermain said, I cover all my electronics with Aluminum foil, especially the alternator....
Then spray everything down with 100% Simple Green, and hook the hose to the water heater...then I blast down the engine. Turns out really well.
The reason I use hot water, it cleans better...
NEVER clean your engine while it hot with cold water. You could potentially crack your block by spraying super cold water onto a hot engine block.
Also, i've tried the engine cleaners/ degreasers you can buy at the store...they work well, but leave an odor for a long time after that smells like chemicals...and it comes through your vents. I found Simple Green to be much better, and it leaves no odor behind.
