Default 2004 Monte Carlo RR Defog

Brand New Member!!!

My 2004 Monte Carlo LS RR defogger does not clear the window and appears to shut off while the Defog light is on. Has anyone else experienced this and fixed the problem? The fog is removed in the center of the window near the wires; the rest of the window does not clear. Then the whole window fogs up with the Defog light still illuminated on the button.

Hi `Ed from Nobleville, Ind & Welcome to the
Monte Carlo Family Forum.
Theres a possibility that you have a connection break in the lines on the rearwindow. Normally when this happens you will have some of them (the lines) work, but not all of them. This can happen when
the rear window is being cleaned, and the connection is bumped
and broken.
Suggest checking your contact on rear window for breaks.
I know there is a tester for power current in the electronic line,
but I dont know the name of the tester.
Check back later, & hopefully one of our Expert Member
Techs will have a answer for you.
Wish you Good Luck on repairs, & a
Happy Holidays to you.

Hi Ed,
The most likley cause is a break in the electrical pathways of the defroster. The lines you see on your window are actually conductive lines of material designed to carry the current across your glass causing it to heat and subsequently defrost your window. The most common problem is a break in one of those lines. Check all fuses. The fix is to go to your local auto parts chain ad buy some conductive defroster touch up paint.
