Default Tread Wear Question

So I may or may not have bought some new (used) wheels with tires. The wear on the tires is pretty bad and uneven. What causes this to happen? Why does it wear on one side only?

I also fitted them up to my car and noticed that the tires sit with some camber on them so the tops of the tires are tilted in a little, which would make sense why the tires are wearing on the inside.

Is there anyway to fix this? I obviously need new tires, but should I get a smaller tire like 225/50/18 instead of the 245/45/18 that is on them now? Would that help with the wear?

I have found a couple places with cheap tires both 245/45/18 and 225/50/18. It doesn't really matter to me which one I pick up, but I'd like to know how they will compare.

The rims are 18x8.

Here are the pics:

Thanks!

I'd stick with the 245 if you're running an 8 inch wide rim.

I believe an alignment with the new wheels and tires on should take care of it..

Gonna look so different and bada$$ with those two new mods

The tires that I run currently are wearing evenly.. is it necessary to get a new alignment for wider wheels?

And thanks!!

Tires will wear like that from a bad alignment. The vehicle that tire came from probably had a tirod replaced without an alignment. If your current tires are worn evenly you don't have anything to worry about. If your buying new tires you may want to get an alignment just to be safe.

Yeah, chances are that if you're car is properly aligned now, new wheels/tires in approximately the same size shouldn't change the wear pattern too much. If anything it will be bald on the inside and 1/32 to 2/32 on the outside, so past time for new tires anyways... Hope that makes sense.

Basically since you're current tires are good you're new ones should be fine too but I'd keep on eye on 'em just in case. If you can get the alignment I'd go ahead and do it just to get the most out of the tires, but I don't see you as the person to run them to the threads anyways lol

I agree though, person before definitely changed rods and never got everything realigned.. something I'd strongly advise against

It is always a good idea (and recommended) that you have the alignment checked whenever you install new tires and/or wheels. To prolong the life of the tires have alignment checked every 6 months, rotate your tires on a regular basis and check air pressure at least once a month. Also make sure the wheels are properly torqued when installed to prevent rotor warpage.

Also very important to keep an eye on your tire pressures

I would say the previous owner just never rotated his tires and didn't care about anything

Tires that wear on one side like this are typical if one was running excessive positive positive or negative camber. So the alignment would have let these tires wear more evenly.

When we did my suspension parts a 4 wheel alignment was required on my Monte.... Have done it another time, want the vehicle to track true and not dog walk.
