Question Tires, wheels, and lowering springs

hey everyone, I am going to be getting the Mustang Buillitt style rims soon size 17x8, and I was wondering if there will be any rubbing issues if I lower the car after putting those rims and tires on. the tire size will be 235/55/R17 and the lowering springs drop it 1.7'' in the front and 1.5'' in the rear. maybe go with a profile of 50 instead of 55 just to be safe?

I will be posting more pics when my friend with a much better camera has some time to take pictures of my car. But for now, here are a couple of crappy cell phone pics lol

Waxed the wheels before they went on the car, and a pic of the tires at the shop as they were getting ready to be mounted.

Please, let me know what y'all think

wow, they look great, very nice......You just need to find a nice Chevy bowtie center decal and you'll be set.

Im thinking either a bowtie, or "SS" center. And please ignore the ugly stock lug nuts lol the place I ordered my wheels from didn't sent me metric lugs, so I went to AutoZone and bought some chrome ones after this was taken.

So next up is center caps and lowering springs. Thanks for the positive feedback!

A good portion of it depends on your struts. Depending on the age of your struts currently on the car, I'd recommend replacing the struts when you do lowering springs. Rubbing, in most cases, will only be a concern in the rear, since the rear tends to travel more. Looking at your pictures, I'd say the Bullitt wheels look like they hang out of the wheel well enough to be a rubbing issue.

The rear struts are basically brand new. KYB GR2 shocks and struts. Had them replaced this past winter. And when I decide to do the lowering springs, I am also going to replace the fronts with the same struts. They are still stock right now. Also, there is about a 4.25'' fender gap in the front and just a tad over 5'' in the rear. Would a less than 2'' drop really cause a rubbing issue? Especially since lowering springs tend to be much stiffer than stock, as well as adding anti-pogo washers. I'm more concerned about bottoming out and scraping issues. I do that as it is occasionally, but that's partially due to the fact that the stock springs are so ridiculously bouncy.

4.25-5" of fender gap seems high, where exactly are you measuring from? The tread surface of the tire to the fender lip?

I'm running Bilstein HD struts and Canuck Motorsports lowering springs. I have 1.25" of fender gap in the front and 0.75" in the rear. The CM lowering springs lowering specs are basically the same for mine (1.8" drop in front and 1.5" in the rear) that you mention in your post. I'm assuming the CM springs are the ones you're looking to go with?

That's sweet, what size tire did you end up going with ? I want to put 235/60/r17s on mine, not sure if I'd have to run spacers or not.... Thanks..... Good looking Monte....mjclemm...

mjclemm: I ended up getting 235/45/r17 bridgestone Potenza re11 tires. Amazing grip and they look mean too. I didn't need spacers, so I doubt that you will either. Depending on the wheel, of course. Thanks a lot for the compliments. You're Monte is sharp as well.

Matt: yes, I was measuring from the tread surface to the fender lip. idk why, but even with the stock tires and wheels, my Monte has always sat rather high, especially in the rear. Could the big gap be partially due to my rim and tire size? Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe your 7th gen came with 18'' wheels and 50 profile tires. Mine are 17'' wheels and 45 profile. And I actually read the whole thread you posted when you lowered your car. And may I just say, it looks amazing and is so clean. You really did great work and the result is flawless. But yes, I will be going with the SSC/Canuck Motorsports lowering springs. They advertise a 1.5'' front and 1.7'' rear drop for my year Monte.
