Tire size recommendation for 18s.
Hey fellas. Been a while since I've been here. But it's time to spice up the Monte a bit. Bought 18 inch rims, so I need a thin all season. Was thinking about 225 40 18. Was looking into Falken tires, but I'm reading mixed reviews. So I'll likely go with Eagles or BF Goodrich. Does that sound like a fairly good low profile size to you guys? Thanks, Pat.

Hi Pat and welcome to the forum,
First thing you need for tire sizing is the size of the original wheel. Then you size the new tires to match the diameter of the old wheels.
And, you need to know how wide your new wheels are 18 x ?"
For instance, 05 MC SS came with 235/55R17 on a 17x7" rim, diameter 27.2"
If I wanted to upsize, I'd go 255/45ZR18 on a 18X8" rim, diameter 27"
p.s. 225/40 18 is 25.1" and needs an 18x8 inch rim.
Is that comparable to what your car came with?

Thx Tom. So originally the car had 225 60r 16. My new rims have 225 50r 18. These are actually identical in height when standing next to each other. So i could go with that size and not change the height at all. If I want to have a shorter tire with a thinner look, how wil that affect my computer/speedometer etc., or what kind of tuning program could help with that area.
Also, the new rims are 18's x 7.5 wide. Unsure of diameter however for a 2005 Monte LS.

If you get a smaller tire diameter tire, your speedometers will tell you you are going slower than you actually are. I have 245/45r18s on my 02. My speeding is on point. I had a cop friend radar me at 15, 30 and 50 MPH.
You can find a tire sizer online.

Monte2005....
I have a 2003MC and I went with 245/45R18 BFG G-Force Super Sport tires on Touren T6 18"x8"wheels. They work great, no rubbing and the speedometer seems to be accurate with the GPS.
This mod sure upped the performance factor compared to the stock 16" Yellow lettered Goodyears!
