My 84 had springs that were not seated properly at the bottom in the "cup" type area and the springs on mine, at the top, have a place that the end of the spring must slide into and it was not in it. The spring was actually under it. Basically, the only reason my springs were even still on the car is because the shocks ran through them because they darn sure were not secured in the places they should have been!! Once everything was where it was supposed to be, it lowered it about an inch. Not sure if 85 SS is the same or not.

Yeah this is different the spring sits on top.of rear between center and drums and the shock bolts to rear kinda backside bottom close to drum its driving me crazy i cant figure it out ever since the damn traction bars went on and street slicks gripping i hope i didnt twist anything
Im only making like 400 ft.lbs 456 gears the street slicks 2800 stall also with a 2 step i dont think i have enough to twist it but never know shoot me

I will give one of my fellow racers a call. He runs a 87 Cutlass and is running a very similar set up to yours and he has those traction bars. I will see if he has any ideas.

Are you sure you put the new springs on exactly as the other ones were?
you sure you didn't mount them upside down?

No luck with any answers. He told me someone else does all his suspension work and doesn't know what could be causing your car to ride high. Sorry
