Default Staggered wheels

Im trying to go for a staggered look on my 2006 Monte Carlo Lt... Everywhere i go they tell me 22.8 1/2 is as big as i can go in the rear because its a front wheel drive so there is little room to work with.. my question is will a 22.9 fit in the rear.. if the problem is the fender coming down on the wheel couldnt i just put spacers on my shocks?...

I believe the issue is more with the strut plate hitting the tires when you go that deep, not the fender.

But large staggered rims on a FWD, and the already weak transmission isn't a great idea.
