That would be your best bet.... I'm not sure what shocks would improve the smoothness of the ride though...I mainly know performance upgrades and that would be the opposite making it stiffer.
How many miles do you have on it? They might just need to be replaced with stock shocks.

i think you mean struts dont you??? the monte carlo's have struts on them, putting new struts and coils on are going to make it a little stiffer ride until they break in a bit, but yes, they will make it a bit smoother, you could try new tires too

what tires and tire pressure you running?
my car came with 225 60 16 cheap pos no name tires, i went to 225 55 17 bfg traction ta t and it rides smoother dispite less sidewall.
i think tires can be huge, get some michelins if youre made outta money

Yes I meant struts.
Tires wouldn't be a bad idea either. I've heard alot of good reviews over Goodyear's TripleTred. Check them out at http://www.tirerack.com
