Default Mis-information regarding 6th/7th Gen Monte SS Wheel Offset?

Hello all...I'm the new kid on the block when it comes to the 7th Gen.We just bought my wife a Silver '07 Monte SS this past week and I've been trying to research what wheels will fit the car and have observed and received conflicting information regarding fitment offset for 18x8.5" width wheels. The debate started when I was at Discount Tire and they're telling me that only an 8" wide wheel will fit our car and the offset must be no more that +35mm. When I asked about 18x8.5" wheels they said that they flat won't fit! I've seen numerous websites advertising "guaranteed wheel fitment" for 8.5" width in 18" & 20" diameter wheels. I've noticed several people here with 8.5" wheels. Do they rub? We want to lower the car too andstill use the stock 235/50x18 tires on whatever wheel we select. What's the deal?

As you can see by my signature block I'm no stranger to the Monte SS Community, however, my focus has been the 4th Gen SS. If you notice further, you can see that I have the tire & wheel combo for these cars down to a science and have even documented my findings for the Internet Community here http://home.earthlink.net/~bzdel/TireWheel.htm

Thanks for listening!

I can't say for sure about the '07, but I got my Eagle Alloy 077's in an 18x8, 5x155mm, 38mm offset wheels from Discount tire. They fit great. No rubbing, ever. I run 235/50-18's, but mine is an '04.

for rear tire fitment on 1983-88 Monte Carlo SS
[hr]

Please note! The fitment data listed below is based on the current tire/wheel combination on my vehicle which includes BFG P275/40xZR17 tires mounted on 17" x 8.5" wheels. The wheels are manufactured with a +15mm offset. In order to fit this tire and wheel combination correctly, it required the use of a (19mm) 3/4" forged (6061-T6 plate) aluminum wheel adapter from Vette Brakes & Products, located in Saint Petersburg, Florida. This gave me the -4mm necessary overall offset to fit properly. If you would like additional information on how these adapters are used or what they look like please follow this link.
