G Body Rear Tire Size?

G Body Rear Tire Size?
What is the widest tire you can fit under the stock tubs in an '87 SS? I think I had 245's on my '84, but would like to at least tuck some 255's under there. I need wider tires in the rear (225's now), but want to keep from rubbing and be able to keep the tire tucked inside the fender wells.
It is lowered 2" BTW.

It will depend on what wheels/backspacing you are using, but 275 (60 or 50 series) tires can fit no problem. I've seen both on stock wheels, but that is getting a little wide for a 7" wheel. I have 245/60's all around on my Monte with a 3/2" drop.

I'd like a bit more tire under my '86 LS. I did kind of a tire poll at the 2005 Monte Nats in Decatur, IL.
Saw a lot of 255 and 275 sizes with a few 295s. But like was posted it depends on the wheel and backspacing used.

I currently have 18X8 in the front and 20X8 in the rear. I've got the perfect stance with that combination, and a 2" drop. The problem is I want to go wider now in the rear. I have looked on Ebay, but I would have to buy a whole set of wheels. I want to keep the ones I have and just get wider ones for the back. They make 20X9.5, which is what I would like to run. But selling my two and buying just two is going to be hard to do. Unless of course money isn't an issue, which in fact it is. This sucks.

255-45-17 all around with no issues to really speak of. I do rub the rubber brake up front when the wheel is at full lock because I don't have steering stops and the back is close to the fram but no rub. I run a 17x8 with 4.00" backspace all around.

My 87 SS is lowered 2" and I have 15x8 wheels with 3 1/2" backspacing. I currently have BFG radial T/A's size 295/50/15, they are 9 1/2" wide and I can fit a finger between the tire and frame. I don't have any problems running this size.
