Front sway bar
Found my swaybar broke today...
Is it hard to replace? looks like it wont be too hard unbolt and pull out trough the wheel well. Is that how it is or am i not seeing something?
Napa has a sway bar kit for about $100 that dont sound like a bad deal i guess.
Im pretty handy, but i could use any tips from people that have done it before.
Thanks

1auto has one that cost $100, you get all of that but the difference is that the bar isnt hollow like the stock one, its fully steel so it wont ever break again or rust from the inside out. I am curious though on how hard it is to replace one of these because mines is rusting from the inside out

No it's the stock one .. I bought the stock one this time if it breaks again then I'll get the solid one..

What year and engine do you have in your Monte? I assume it's a 2000-2005 Monte?
If it is, you may want to consider this bar:

If you don't get the bar I mentioned from Summit, make sure to get new end links.
Now, as far as changing it.... The shop book recommends dropping the aluminum subframe. Now, I've helped change one on a '98 Grand Prix (virtually identical to the 00-05 Monte, but has a steel subframe) and we did not drop the frame. One of the hardest parts is the tight spacing for unbolting/re-bolting the the sway bar bushings to the frame. After that, sliding it out was easy (because it was broken) but getting the new one in was a little tricky. Because of it's odd shape, we had to have the front of the car high (I believe to the end of the jack travel) and also disconnect the outer tie rods from the steering knuckle.
That being said, take a look at your outer tie rods, this might be a time to replace them. If you have to replace them, you'll need an alignment (of not, so long as you only disconnected them from the steering knuckle, then you don't need an alignment). Also, if you have to change one tie rod, change them both.
If you have to change the tie rods, I highly recommend these $33 a piece + shipping from RockAuto):

Hope that helps get you started.

03 monte....3.8 engine
I seen the one from summit. i think that will be what i get. getting the new bar in is my main concern here. i dont think i need tie rod ends. i hope not, ive had the car for about a week and a half and already replaced the MAF sensor. Ill be doing coolant elbows and flush soon too.
