Default Camber Bolts

Are these basically a must have with a lowered car? I feel like I hear about them enough. My 03 Monte was lowered and I rolled like that for three years without camber bolts and any issues because if it. However, the drop on my 03 was 1", whereas the drop on my 06 is 1.5". I re installed the original strut bolts on my 06 because that's what I had done in the past on my 03. Is the extra 0.5" drop enough to consider getting some camber bolts this time? If so, are the bolts just a simple, straight forward swap and install or, once installed, are they something that a shop adjusts while doing an alignment?

Camber bolts, Like Caster bolts are invariably used to align the steering..
If your alignment hasnt changed.... Then IMO why bother? But maybe sometime down the road if the alignment changes..Then yes.. I say your going to need them..

Also, I've read that camber bolts are more prone to breaking, or shearing, under excessive load because they're design is thinner than stock bolts, thus reducing the strength of the joint. On top of that, they can slip, or change alignment settings, under load if not installed properly. The bolts should only be installed by somebody who knows how to properly install them. These all make me feel a bit uneasy.

That being said, could the bolts create more of a potential problem or will they be more of a benefit when installed properly for the specific setup? Will just a regular alignment be enough or will the addition of camber bolts help?

In some cases yes it's necessary, but those are extreme cases. Most normal lowering doesn't call for them. However when you have older cars, like mine, the mount plates tend to sag and you can't get that true camber/caster back anymore and it calls for it even without lowering. I think it's a case by case, or car by car I should say, basis depending on suspension geometry and modification.

I have never really thought the setup I'm running calls for them. However, I've seen others with W-Bodies running them with similar setups and that made me wonder. Like I said, with normal alignments I never had any issues running my 03 lowered without them.

Alright, thanks guys. I figured I didn't need them with the amount of drop I'm running but I was curious.
