Sorry if these questions have already been answered but ive searched for atleast 20 mins and found no such luck...

can i put 22s without a lift? how much will i compromise with doing so? handling and such.... do you recommend that or go smaller?

 

What year is your car? I've seen 22's on 5th and 6th gens with no lift... Almost no tire either though... Dunno about the older Montes though

 

The bigger the wheel, the heavier it will be. You will lose performance (such as acceleration, fuel economy, etc), you will put a LOT more wear and tear on the tranny and axles, and if you have to lift the vehicle the problems get MUCH worse. I honestly believe that 18's are a good compromise between looks and performance due to the fact that you can still get a fairly lightweight wheel that will fit a good size set of brakes inside of them.

If you still want to do it, then I will say that I have seen 5th - 7th gen Montes with 22s without a lift. You will probably need a set of wheel spacers and it will more then likely make your Monte look goofy.

But I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, lol.

 

its an 04 so 6th gen .... but yea ill probably look at 18s or 20s .... i want something that looks big but doesnt compromise too much performance... i appreciate yalls help

 

I really like the look of 18s that way you can have a little more side wall and less chance of ruining a rim or causing damage to your drivetrain, etc.

However, 20s are starting to grow on me more and more. Used to never be a fan of anything bigger than 18s but some 20's look good, depends on the car I guess.
Do you have any specific rims you're looking at getting?

 

I would go with 22 at all I have 20's myself I only run them for about 6 months out of the year though.The salt they put on the road will tear the chrome up. But I think 20s would be perfect you can still have the customized feel and not ruin the look of your car

 

I agree...Go with 20's. No bigger, though. (MHO)

 

Speaking from my personal experiences, 22s can go on without a lift as long as you have the right offset and rubberband tires. If you want, you can use spring spacers in the back so when you have people in the back seat, your tires wont rub. 22s will cause you to lose some performance but not much fuel mileage. I ran 24s and plan on putting 26s by spring by the way.

 

255/30R22 if you want to go that route, I roll on 245/35R20 no rub at all !

 

22's look nice without a lift, i believe the tire size would be around 235/30/22, im not sure. :p the tires will rub on the struts but nothing a little sledge hammer cant fix lol had to do it on my Yellow ls on 20's but the tires were 245/45/20 so yeaa
