22?? Yea i need help this bad!! [Repost]
Okay! this is the deal. I have an 02 Monte Carlo SS. (I have pics uploaded in the album) I really want to put 22" wheels on her but i would love for her to turn out with a really clean snug look. I dont knnow much about wheel instalations or about suspension up grades. I have really been researching hard to find the best way on going about raising the car and inch or so to prevent the tires from touching in any case. can anyone give me some advice on how i should tackle this? Coil booster? [Safety issues??] longer coils [Hard to find] etc.any information woi=uld be helpful and i thank you guys in advance. anyone with 22'' eheels installed please help.
ps im looking at a wheel that will be eith 22x90 or 22x9.5, which wold be better? also tire sizes? 255/30z/r22, 245/30z/22, or 235/30/r22?? THANKS AGAIN!!!

Unless you plan on "NOT" driveing it!

I know of a couple people that put 20's on their 6th gen Monte with minimal issues. Maybe go with 20's, and you won't have to spend a ton of money modifying the car to accomodate a set of 22's.

There are currently 22s on my 02. That will change in a week. They were on the car when I bought it almost a year ago.
Good points:
1. The car looks really good! 2. Only slight modification to the rear struts.
Bad Points: 1. Rear strut brace bet up to fit the tires under the strut. 2. On stock suspension the quarter pannels rub and frunt tires rub on hard turns. 3. Every bump transfers dirrectly into suspension and into the car. 4. Suspension replacement evervy 12-18 months. 5. Replacemen of Parts early due to excessive vibration.
22s look good on the car. But In order to get them to work right you gotta do major upgrades to the suspension, transmission and engine. Plus you have to go over the screws a d bolts in the dash every now and again.
Personally if the previous had the oem rims when I bought the car they would have been on my car a long time ago. I bought a set of 5 18s with 245/45R18. They will be on my Monte SS this w/e. Better ride, better road handling, normal repair schedule. I would not recommend anything bigger that 19s on a 6th Gen. Monte!

you can get 22x8 22x8.5 22x9 22x9.5 its all fine, the thing is you have to have kind of a mid offset on the car like a +25 or so 5x115 bolt pattern because if the rims are +40mm or so you'll have issues turning because the wheel will hit the frame. You can take a rubber mallet hammer and beat up the strut cup around the coils in the front (so the rim clears) and just pop on the rears no problem...best ideal size to me is 235/30/22 since its tiniest tire (more room) 245/255 works too as long as its 30 series. Also if you do rub in the back because of subs or people try going to auto zone or advanced and buying spring boosters, you can buy the metal ones..or the rubber ones. you basically jack up the back of your car, let your springs uncompress (stretch out) and pop them in (metal ones u tighten, while rubber you just squeeze in) and it'll basically hold your spring to 1" lift, so if you go into a swoop or awkward angle it doesn't rub. 22s or go home

Depending on the miles of your car id replace the shocks and struts and with a new fresh set. Your going to rub bad when you hit a good bump or dip in the road. A 235/30/22 seems to thin to me. Id at least go with the 245 or even a 255. I also wouldnt go with a rim wider then 9'' wide.

20x10 on mine no prob ..they did rub over bumps on outer fenderwell just enough to slice a very very thin line all away around my brand new nitto extremes 555 .. Tire is 10 inch. For sure though.. Check them out see what ya think I had to changes strut and now lookin at those little spacer for spring .. But they haven't rubbed since I changed strut but they only rub with two kids in the back plus stereo

Here's my cousins old Monte Carlo.
He only used supention lifters for the rear springs you buy from autozone. I think they were twenty dollars for a pair. They are easy to install all you have to do is jack the car and place between the springs.Then He bent the front strut plate upward to create clearance for the front wheels. Its just that when he hit a rut big enough the the front strut plate would eventually get pulled down again by the inner lip of the rim. His had to constanly jack the car up an pry it up again an again. While this may seem like a lot, I believe he felt it was worth all the extra work as odd as it may seem. I say if you want it that bad, go for it. Just be prepared to jack the car up every so often to bent the strut plate with a bar of some sort. Also you may want to have extra lifters on standby because they occasionlly pop out. This is the cheapest way to ride 22's. I think the 6th generation looks nice with the right 22's. I'm sure there's a better way if your willing to invest.

Hi I would go 18s to 19s and the right tire size u go any bigger you have no side wall and when u hit pot holes u lose rims as will as side walls on the tires and u don't have to do any mods to the car and talk about a ruff ride PS I know it looks good but the ride sucks been their had 20s with spoke rims dropped back down to my factory rims 17s 5 stars with 245 45 17 now my ride is very smoth and no problems, my 98 ss has 18s with 235 55 and 225 55 with no mods plus it doesn't mess with computers or trans,if I go up in size on the 005 ss,I won't go any bigger than an 18 hope this info helps!!!!
