Default 2000 Monte Carlo Suspension

I have a 2000 monte carlo and I am hearing a noise from my rear suspension that sounds like bad struts. I was wondering if anyone has removed the rear struts on a 2000 Monte, and if they could give me some tips on how to do it? Thanks for any help

Well how doese it sound? Kinda Raddels? Could Be just the mount. on my alero I had both rear strut mounts shot.. Not Hard at all. you just need the tool to compress the spring other then that its like 5 bolts.

Most likely just the mounts. They have a rubber bushing that goes between them and the struts, and that bushing wears away then you just hear the metal hitting the metal..

bad struts would give your car so much bounce it would be horrible to drive with.

How long should these mounts last? My car is already making some rattling noises from the rear when I hit bumps. It's quite annoying.

Thanks.

I would say it all depends on your weather and such. It's possible it's happening to you already.

RAGE!!!!!! Perhaps I'll take it in this weekend. Dang it! This will be three shop visits in three weeks... week one: tires, week two: alignment, and now week three: rear strut mounts

It's just a squeak, more of an annoyance than a problem :P

You only have yourself to blame for taking it in haha.

Mine has some slight squeak, keeping an eye (and ear) on it, but I have other things I need to fix first.

always seems to be my right rear...

Yeah I also have a 2000 with the same noise and I know what your talking about.... in that corner, I know I have a bad shock but i was also told the strut plate bushing was bad.... so im replacing everything and lowering this spring. To take the setup out, its three nuts located in the corner of the trunk behind the seat need to come off and then take off your wheel to get at the two main ones located behind the brake setup. the setup should slide out after those five bolts are out. You will need to get a spring compressor to compress the spring and take off the nut on top, then the strut plate will come off and you can replace the shock also.
Hope this helps!
