Default 18's just as good as 20's?

I just got new 18's put on my '04 Monte Carlo LS and I'm beating myself up over not getting 20's. Would you say 18's are just as good as 20's? Or would you say 20's would look too big?

It depends on what's more important to you. IMO, I think 20's are perfect, not too big, not too small. However, there are some drawbacks, the added cost, the smaller tires, possible loss of ride quality, etc. With 18's, you can save a few bucks, have bigger tires, better ride quality...........it all just depends on your personal taste and the look you're going for.

my monte is sitting on 20's now
and i had 18's

20's look nice on these cars i think and the tires dont look way to small.....

and i get nothing but compliments.. but i could use a little bit of ride height drop

This question comes up quite a bit here. My preference is 18s. I think they are the perfect size for the montes. If you go 20s, upgrade the brakes and use a high quality tires. Take no risks. IMO 20s are too big for this car if you like the sporty/athletic appeal. If you're going for the BLING FACTOR, then 20s but no bigger...that would just be silly!! You don't want to have to swap out to a Hummer axle and enter Donk territory, do you?

ya know i have a '96 monte carlo and i have 20's on it. the tires are small (255/35/R20) yet the ride is SO smooth it is incredible. I have noticed no difference between the stock set of wheels and the 20's except it slows the car down alittle bit. besides that, the ride is still smooth. and with the newer monte carlos you can fit 22's so if i was you i would put 22's on it they look sweet. If your going spend money on aftermarket rims - do it right. if your going to get 18's you mine as well just stick with the stock rims its not much difference. and it doesnt cost anything. go with 20's or better. I hope this helps.

actually the reason for 18's over 16's is you can still get a lightweight wheel and it lowers you sidewall flex therefor increasing stability in the corners with out increasing you rollong weight much which in turn gives the car much better handling and braking with out comprimising ride quality
