Default 17x7 wheels tire size

Tire rack says you must have 225-55r17 with 17x7 wheels. Is this true? Anybody have 17x7 wheels with stock size tires(235-55r17) discount tire direct has much better prices but I don't want to get tires that don't fit

Yeah you can go up to a 235 no problem. That's my opinion; you will get those people that will say that you should go overly big on a certian wheels. But I have been running a 245/45/17 on a 17X7.5 wheel. I had a few people on the forums that said I shouldn't run that wide of a tire. But it's now going on six years running them and I have no problems and I run them hard off and on the track (SCCA).

i am going to get 4 17x7 wheels(2 of my factory ts edition wheels are bend and ride is bad) and get 235/50r17 Nitto NeoGen tires,as they are the same width as the stock size and a little shorter(read:smaller sidewall)

you have a 245/45r17 on 17x7.5 wheel and have no issues with tire rub? if so it would save me some $ to get a 245/45r17 as opposed to 235/50r17

I ran 245/45s for the entire time I had 17's with no issues what so ever. When I upgraded to stainless brake lines they did rub the line but I zip tied them back and have had no issues.

This is a great site to compare tire and rim sizes. Plug in the stock tire and wheel specs, then play around with other tire and wheel sizes. You will see recommend rim widths and the affect of the changes on speedometer accuracy and clearance.
