Hello everyone I am new to MCF and am glad to have joined! Well, I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS and its sage green with about 117000 miles and I have had the car for about 2 1/2 years and have never took it to the track but I plan on to next weekend. So, my questions would be what 1/4 mile times should I be expecting and at what rpm's would I want to launch at? Oh and I plan on running with 1/4 tank of gas or less and no spare or jack.

 

Im gunna guess a stock ss will run 16.2

 

yea 16.1-16.2 is your target at stock dont forget to: 1. remove front head light (takes like 45 sec to do) 2. lower the psi in your front wheels 3. launch around 2000 rpm 4. drop the gas to about 1/8th of a tank 5. and have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Ok thanx but I have some more questions now. What is the point in removing both headlights? and I would lower the psi in my front wheels to increase grip right? traction should be off right? Also is it possible to get it in the 15.9's?...Other suggestions anyone would want to throw at me to try and get the best time I can?

 

you don't need to remove both... just the drivers side. this makes for "headlight ram air" as we drag racers like to call it... the air is picked up right behind that headlight so removing it puts more air to the engine... i pick up like .05 of a second by doing that . seriously, my best time was without a headlight... .015 seconds faster than with it. however, they were different days... the day i removed my headlight was MUCH warmer than the day i ran without it.

 

Sweet!! Thanks for that info , should help it then. Well, what if I take out my air filter out down at the track, you think it would improve time also because its basically the same concept with the headlight ram air. No headlight+ No air filter=More air....or is that a big no no?

 

on street tires, you dont want to drop pressure much more than 25psi...lower than that is just going to tear up your tires...

launch around 1800-2100, but dont go gun-ho out of the hole. feather the throttle while you spin until you feel her bite then lean into it hard.

Jack up the rear tire pressure. (it wont do much...but it will help the car from squating on the tire. suspension will still squat, but more ire pressure wont let you sag to the rim under load)

...oh and make SURE you drive around the burnout box. you DONT want to get those street tires wet. As you pull up to the line, giv the throttle a quick wack just to clean the tires off and get ready to go.

Do NOT remove your air filter. You can get a K&N drop in or get a new intake, but for the love of your engine internals, do not remove the air filter. More airflow + no air filtration is a bad idea. Anything you car sucks through the intake will go right through to the engine( well, I suppose it could get caught in the honeycomb, but I wouldn't leave it to chance)

Yea I figured it would probably suck in all the stuff if i removed the air filter , so i decided not to do it, hmm I think I already have a k&n drop in air filter , also and exhaust system...=] but hey thats still basically stock right.
