I have a friend who is offered me a trade for some parts he wants. I would be receiving a ls4 aluminum shortblock. He bought it for the 243 heads not knowing that the shortblock was front wheel drive specific.

Through inspection the shortblock is in good condition. I was able to turn the crank over by hand with relative ease over 360 degrees.

I thought ls4 heads were fwd specific also.

no, the 243 heads that come on ls4 engines are the same as all other ls1 heads- you can put pretty much any ls head on your ls4.

Agreed. 243 castings can work on fwd or rwd.

 

guys- my machinist told me that these blocks can be bored out to ls1 5.7 specs- if this was a l33 i would be doing it for my 2002 z28
