Smile Winter Project: Rust Removal :D

Not quite Winter but I decided to get a head start on my winter project

My Monte's started to get pretty rusty on the underside so I plan on eliminating as much of it as I can over the winter. Only going to be doing a little each day/week so I thought I'd start a thread for pics and updates. Also, I plan on doing quite a bit of suspension work. Hopefully going with AGX struts and SSC Springs. May go with GR2 struts just because of the price.

Pulled a lot of stuff off tonight. Going to start up front and get the radiator support cleaned up. Removing my intake and battery and killing the rust that's started under there as well.

I'm thinking this is what I'm going to be going with for the underside. Eastwood seems to have some pretty good products for restoration and fixing rust. Not sure how I feel about just applying this stuff directly over the rust? May sand it down a little first.

Wish this stuff wasn't sooo expensive Stilll unsure of which to go with.. I'm planning on doing it all the right way so I'm not doing this ever again

Hopefully tomorrow night I can get a start on sanding down the rust now that everything is removed.

Here's an updated pic of the engine bay.. Clearcoated my mounts and braces so there's no way it's rusting this time Considering getting them powdercoated or chrome plated, that kind of stuff will have to wait though, I need the money for rust removal right now lol.

Baking the clear coat

Freshly painted Painted the HVTB too

I've used POR15 for a lot of projects. Properly prepped, that stuff does the job!!! When you use it, must be on porse metal OR use the Metal Prep etching spray! And yes, it is hard stuff (I remember trying to feather sand some that was brushed on, I think the surrounding steel was going to sand off before the POR15).

Nice! Any clue what products you will be using yet?

I thought about a rhinoline type of coating but there's so much rust I'm thinking Por15 will be my best bet.

Good to hear! Do you have any experience with the Marine Clean or Prep & Ready? I've seen a few kits from Eastwood. Thinking I'll use it on the underside. Would you recommend using this stuff under my battery tray and intake, or just the underside? I want the visible areas to be fairly clean and oem looking, in terms of paint/coating. For the underside I'm definitely going to use POR15

I'm excited. By no means will I have it done soon but I'll feel a little better to not see rust everytime I'm under the car lol

My suspension was rust free until last winter but now it rusted around the edges. I may clean it up a bit after we see how it works out for you.
