Lightbulb Uh oh Alarm!

So I started thinking now that I'm actualling sinking some good money into my monte it's about time I get an alarm system especially living in Windsor and going to Detroit on occasion.

Has anyone put one into their monte or have any suggestions what to get.
I don't want to spend a lot but I still want quality.

I'm not sure how the security system in a 7th gen is since you have the chip in the key, where as 6th gens only have passlock. Cheaper alarms don't always work good with stock systems.

Most people will recommend Viper. Speaking from experience I have Avital (remote start only, no alarm) but its a great product. I did have to replace my ignition cylinder to end the passlock troubles with the remote start, though.

But remember, you get what you pay for.

Pretty sure GM didn't go back to Passkey for the 7th Gens...

But that is true, I wouldn't do a security system on these cars with all the passlock and BCM issues.

Agreed. I used to be all about putting in car alarms w/ remote starters. I did this for the last 5 cars I owned (even a mid 80's Cadillac). I wouldn't dare try with the Monte. To many head aches and ignition problems are the worst cuz they can leave you stranded anywhere anytime. I've heard to many nightmare stories even from peeps who had professional installs

I would just go without it as well. I think in most cases now days, if people want to steal your car, they will get it done regardless of the alarm system.

As others have mentioned they can be a pain too if problems arise.
I had a viper on my 93 Chevy Silverado, and had problems when the keyless remote battery died. Of course I could not unlock it then other than manually, so i figured no problem, but I couldn't start it, the alarm went all sorts of nuts when I tried to turn the ignition. My own pick up thought i was stealing it So was stuck at a friends house, and had no vehicle until I could get a new battery..kinda sucked.

It also set the alarm off if it thundered loudly

It seems to me so many car alarms go off randomly so much that people don't even pay attention to them. I know if I hear one going off I just ignore it so I would say they are ineffective. Spend your money on other mods.
