Mines an LTZ.......gotcha. Well that is looking sharp. Think I would have gone stealth and twin turbo. But a huffer does have a nice rumble to it. I just got my tires back on today, Tranny finally in. I feel like a miniature version of you. When the rotor is on it means everything else in place. Going to fire it in the morning.
Yes you got me. It was an LT I bought for this project. But if you noticed the front and rear bumpers are off an SS. The only thing that is going to be an LT is the VIN. I have all the SS trim inside and out, badges and more. And the dead giveaway the steering wheel to will be an SS also. I needed a shell so I bought this car. Knowing on the production line there is no difference in an LT or SS or like yours an LTZ in all the bodies in white. Why buy an SS for more money when the lesser expensive LT will do the same job. I will have the perfect clone, modified albeit.
My earlier posts mentioned this transition some where in this thread. As you know I have a real SS that I am trying to make and exact copy in color and trim.

Well of course, the SS is a V-8, but not very dependable at all. They sell really cheap from what I have seen. Not sure exactly why I am an LTZ, but I do know you get leather and pretty sure the really good FE4 suspension, which I upgraded with the solid sway bar. 4 wheel independent braking too, if that is different. So tranny is good and she is back on the road with a mushy brake pedal. Ordered a new Delco and hopefully this will be the last problem for a while. I feel like I am back racing again, working in a hot garage (no AC yet, but fans) and getting all dirty. Actually feels good. Building a race car is clean, racing one not so much. But when you get to Bowling Green or Memphis I come see you. I hope you saw in the news that Shockwave wrecked and killed the driver. He had made 100s of passes in that truck. Lesson is it only takes one time. Appears a tire came apart but the video was not very good. Never get complacent.
What a tragedy, I watched the entire replay second by second for 16 seconds - I am sure investigators will figure out what caused the crash - early assumptions are early deployment of one of the chutes or a tire coming apart. That happened not to far from us at Kellogg in Battle Creek about 2-1/2 hours drive for me. . Air shows are generally not my forte' - we have them here at Selfridge Air Force base which is only 10 miles from me and I can watch from my backyard. But like you we stay in tune to the industry as a whole because that is what we do - and work on our cars well into our 70's and love it!!. Keeps us young!
Getting close to start thinking about insurance. I use Hagerty for show car insurance, due to the limited miles I put on it each year. Zero deductible, $300 a year for $7500 coverage. Being a race car you may have to go a different route, or just have key off insurance for racing, or key on with someone else. When you make those 1/8 passes, get the chute out and make sure everything is OK. A trick I learned from some old FC guys is to put the shroud lines in the last fold of the chute, so when the chute comes out the lines come with it.
That advise on the chute is well taken probably extended my life span by a few. I checked in to Hagerty on my first car. Got the in person appraisal and the pictures I don’t insure it as a race car at all because it really isn’t. That alone cost me $300. I only insure it for 4 months driving. 8 months storage I insure it for my entire investment And even with my adjusted on the road time it isn’t cheap.
I just put collector car insurance (show car) on my 2002 a few weeks ago. I got a zero dollar deductible for $400 per year with a value of $15,000. Granted I don't drive it much and time is limited in Minnesota for cruising. They asked me a few questions and I had to provide a picture of it in my garage where it's parked when not driving. More of a piece of mind if anything happens during the off months.
