yup--plasti-dip's the way to go Best part of it is that it's got kind of a rubbery feel to it and cleans up REALLY easy with tire foam. A bunch of people say it holds better than the rim paint too.

jester Do you use a wheel brush to clean them? Is it pretty durable?

prep wise, i just cleaned em off real good (inside of rim included) taped off what i wanted to stay shiny and went to town. I put 4 coats on i think and was good to go. I pretty much babied it that night and the next day or two and they're still lookin good.

As for cleaning them, i just spray tire shine on the whole wheel/tire, wait a couple minutes and wipe dry. I'm gonna experiment with different foams to see if some make it looks more shiny and more flat. I think I like the flat black look better, but we'll see where it goes.

Thanks guys. Well I spent all afternoon doing it and here's what came out. I used the whole can, so I couldn't do as many coats as I wanted today. I'm pretty happy with it.

Before:

And after:

Might as well add on a funny story in here as well. As I was putting a tire back on, I had two grown men drive up to me (within the same 60 seconds, even) - one went out of his way to do so - to tell me that they were pleasantly surprised at what I was doing. They had never in their lives seen a female who could change a tire. I was shocked. I thought it was a thing that most everybody could do... MCF ladies, I hope you're also one of the apparent few who can as well!

Man thats cool Ive never heard of that stuff. where do you buy it and about whats it cost ? It made me kinda laugh ,you could paint your car rob a bank and peel it off and the cops would be looking for a flat black car. it would surprise me if someone has already done this.

Wasn't the paint-n-peel idea done in the movie 'Dick Tracy' with Warren Beatty? I think they used wall paper, but same concept.

Thanks for the info. Thinking about trying it on a set of old motorcycle wheels I have.

When you do try it, can I have a small portion of the loot? That is, if you don't get apprehended at the scene of the crime...

:p
