Question Paintable?

This may sound stupid to some people but my new muffler is nice and...Dull metal colour anyway I was wondering if it is paint-able like if I used the Engine paint on it to make it black? If you think this is a stupid idea go ahead and say it I don't mind.

A lot of people that get aftermarket mufflers that aren't stainless paint them to extend the exterior life a bit. Use a ceramic paint or something similar that will stand up to very high temps. Most high temp paints will give a top rated temperature on the side. I'd say find one that's good up to around 200.

Thanks any information for prep. I know how to do most other things but I want to know what would be best, to extend the life per say and also stand up to the weather etc...

I Have an idea what paint to use, but is there a primer or clear coat that I should be adding?

I wouldn't prime or clear it. Just straight paint. Give them a good brush with a wire brush to get any existing surface rust off before shooting it, though.

Paint them now before they start to rust! I did mine just like trewyn. I used a wire brush and cleaned them up then shot with high temp black paint and that was it

Thanks for the advice, they haven't been installed yet; They're getting put on Tuesday; I assume I should wait until after they are installed?
